Spider-Man Brand New Day Eyes 465M Global Box Office Opening

Marcus Thorne ·

Sony and Marvel's Spider-Man: Brand New Day is tracking toward a 465M global debut, which would make it the second-biggest opening ever for Sony.

Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day is on track to deliver the biggest opening weekend of 2026, with industry trackers eyeing a $465 million global debut. Deadline reported the figure on July 28, while The Hollywood Reporter followed with domestic projections of $195 million from 4,300 North American theaters. If the estimates hold, the film would become the second-biggest opening in Sony’s history, trailing only 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home ($600.5 million worldwide).

Domestic Tracking And International Forecast

North American presales for the film have reached roughly $80 million, a figure in line with the $78 million logged by No Way Home before its release. Some rival box office sources believe the domestic opening could land closer to $250 million, while NRG is tracking $195 million. Either outcome would top Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5, which opened to $159.6 million domestically, and claim the No. 1 debut of 2026.

The international forecast is around $270 million, with Deadpool & Wolverine serving as the primary comp. That 2024 film bowed to $233.3 million internationally. Brand New Day is expected to see 2026-record starts across much of Europe and Latin America, where the Spider-Man franchise has historically performed strongly.

Critics Response And Fan Reception

Brand New Day entered its opening weekend with a Rotten Tomatoes critics score of 89 percent Certified Fresh, just below No Way Home’s 93 percent. Tom Holland and Zendaya have embarked on a global press tour with stops in Paris and Italy, promoting both this film and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which has already cleared $600 million worldwide.

The film’s China projection sits at approximately $45 million, which would exceed the entire running total of Toy Story 5 in that market. China did not play No Way Home, so the territory represents new ground for the Tom Holland Spider-Man series. Zendaya and Holland traveled to Shanghai to promote the film ahead of its Wednesday release in major markets including Argentina, Brazil, China, France, Germany, Mexico, Spain, Korea, Italy and the UK.

Why It Matters

If Brand New Day hits its projected $465 million global opening, it will signal that Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise remains a reliable box office anchor even as superhero fatigue dominates industry conversation. The film’s 99 percent foreign footprint also underscores how important international markets have become to Hollywood’s tentpole strategy — and why stars like Holland and Zendaya now split their time between fan events on two different continents.
