'Wizards Beyond Waverly Place' Sets Four-Part Finale Event Premiere Date

Sophia Martinez ·

Disney confirmed the four-part 'Wizards Beyond Waverly Place' finale event will premiere Aug. 4 on Disney Channel, with all episodes streaming on Disney+ on Aug. 5 and Selena Gomez making her directorial debut.

Disney has locked in the return of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place with a definitive finale event: four episodes premiering August 4 on Disney Channel, followed by a same-day drop on Disney+ on August 5.

The announcement arrived alongside the show’s official trailer, which teases a season-long setup coming to a head. In the synopsis, Billie is still reeling from losing Alex at the end of Season 2. She discovers that the only way to rescue her mother is to reunite with her long-lost father, and the Russo family must combine their magic to defeat the evil threatening them.

The Returning Ensemble

Viewers can expect the full core cast back for the arc, including:

  • David Henrie as Justin Russo
  • Janice LeAnn Brown as Billie
  • Alkaio Thiele as Roman Russo
  • Max Matenko as Milo Russo
  • Taylor Cora as Winter
  • Mimi Gianopulos as Giada Russo

Jennifer Stone returns as Harper Finkle and Gregg Sulkin returns as Mason Greyback, restoring the show’s broader Russo-world connections.

Brandon Micheal Hall joins as Damien Penwulf, Billie’s father, alongside guest appearances from Maria Canals-Barrera as Theresa Russo, Ramon Reed as Silas Evilini and Tobias Jelinek as Lord Morsus.

Selena Gomez Steps Behind the Camera

The biggest news behind the premiere may not involve magic at all: Selena Gomez is making her directorial debut with the premiere episode. She will also reprise her role as Alex Russo in multiple episodes, giving the arc a bridge directly back to the original Wizards of Waverly Place (2007–2012).

Creators Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas remain writers and executive producers. Gary Marsh, Jonas Agin, Rick Williams, Gomez and Henrie serve as executive producers. Todd Greenwald created the original series.

Disney is banking on franchise nostalgia the same way it has across Marvel and Star Wars — and Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is proving that legacy IP still draws families to linear channels first.

Why It Matters

Placing the finale on Disney Channel before Disney+ is a deliberate choice. Linear still matters for young-skewing tentpoles, and Disney wants the event to feel appointment-based. The four-episode arc also gives the series a cleaner ending than a standard season pickup, suggesting Disney sees this as a defined chapter rather than an open-ended continuation.
